Christmas IV: The Birth Announcement of Jesus the Christ

The Coming of Jesus the Christ (Messiah), the universal Savior of the world, is celebrated every winter by Christians. It is a public holiday in the Western countries falling on December 25. Of the four biographies of Jesus’ life and service, we will look at parts of three of them during the next several weeks.

After looking at the Gospel of John’s introduction to Jesus which presented Jesus as both God the Creator and God in human form, we are now looking in detail into the circumstances of his birth mentioned in the Gospel of Luke. Luke claims he is a careful historian who pays close attention to details.

Jesus’ coming is believed by Christians to be the fulfillment of many ancient predictions and the hopes of Jewish prophets and all the faithful. We will also explore some of those ancient predictions. Human failing and God’s commitment to save and preserve the human race are both prominent themes from the earliest part of the Bible. God’s plan to rescue (redeem) the human race reaches its climax in the life, death and bodily resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
