Christmas: The Birth of Jesus

The Coming of Jesus the Christ (Messiah), the universal Savior of the world, is celebrated every winter by Christians. It is a public holiday in the Western countries falling on December 25. Of the four biographies of Jesus’ life and service, we will look at parts of three of them during the next several weeks. We will begin with the introduction to John’s Gospel account which gives an overview of Jesus identity and impact from a cosmic viewpoint. We will then shift to Luke’s and Matthew’s accounts of the historical details of Jesus’ birth. Jesus’ coming is believed by Christians to be the fulfillment of many ancient predictions and the hopes of Jewish prophets and the faithful. We will also explore some of those ancient predictions.

Human failing and God’s commitment to save and preserve the human race are both prominent themes from the earliest part of the Bible. God’s plan to rescue (redeem) the human race reaches its climax in the life, death and bodily resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.
